Exceptional Student Services
The Nogales Unified Exceptional Education Department believes that parents are important contributors and partners in the special education process. We are committed to working with you to develop plans and programs that are focused on your individual child's success.
All information and procedures must be provided to you for you to be an active member of your child's team. Below are several links where you can find information designed to help parents learn more about the special education process and their rights and responsibilities.
We encourage you to learn as much as you can. You can always talk with your child's teacher, counselor, school psychologist, or principal. If you need more assistance, please contact the Nogales Unified Student Services Director.

Notice to Access Benefits or Insurance
Before the school district accesses a parent’s or child’s Medicaid or other publicly funded benefits (i.e., AHCCCS) for the first time to seek reimbursement for services provided to an eligible student, and annually thereafter, written notice is required to inform parents. The following documents serve as this notice.
Child Find
Nogales Unified School District offers Child Find screening to locate, identify, and evaluate all children who may have a disability. If you know a child who has a disability or one you suspect may have difficulty with learning, communication, vision, hearing, behavior, or motor control and coordination, please contact the special education department at 310 West Plum Street.
NUSD screens children from preschool through high school. We refer infants and toddlers with disabilities to the Arizona Early Intervention Program for evaluation and services. All Child Find referrals are confidential, and services are provided at no cost to the family.

Arizona Early Intervention Program:
As children grow physically, their knowledge, skills, and behavior also develop. When a child is not meeting the milestones for their age, the Arizona Early Intervention Program (AzEIP) can help. Children between birth and 36 months old may be eligible for AzEIP.
