Important message

Dear Parents and Guardians,

On March 3, 2026, our school will conduct a routine practice lockdown drill. The safety of our students is our top priority, and these exercises are an essential part of ensuring our staff and students are prepared to respond quickly and calmly to any situation.

A Unique Focus for This Drill:This particular drill will be slightly different from our usual classroom-based practices. We will be conducting this exercise during a time when students are not in their classrooms (such as during lunch or a passing period). The goal is to help students and staff practice how to find the nearest secure location and follow safety protocols even when they aren't with their primary teacher. Practicing this specific scenario builds confidence and ensures everyone knows how to stay safe regardless of where they are on campus.

How to Talk to Your Child About Safety Drills: When discussing the upcoming drill at home, we recommend focusing on these themes to help them feel empowered:

Focus on the "Why": Just like wearing a seatbelt or a bike helmet, we practice so we know exactly how to stay safe.

The Power of Listening: Remind your child that their most important job is to listen to the nearest adult, as all staff members are trained to keep them secure.

Safety in Routine: Explain that practicing for "out-of-class" moments makes the unexpected feel manageable and less scary.

A Secure Environment: Reassure them that school is a safe place and that many adults—teachers, administrators, and safety officers—are there to protect them.

Validate Their Feelings: If they feel nervous, let them know it’s okay. Reiterate that this is a "practice run" designed to build their confidence.

Thank you for your partnership in keeping our school community safe and for helping your child feel prepared for this important exercise.

Best regards,

Mariebeth Silva
