Santa Cruz County Emergency Management has launched Santa Cruz County Alerts, a free emergency notification system that helps keep families informed about emergencies and potential safety concerns in their communities.

Alerts may include severe weather, wildfires, flash floods, hazardous material incidents, air quality advisories, boil water advisories, and major road closures.

How to Sign Up:

Visit the Santa Cruz County website and navigate to Government → Office of Emergency Management → Popular Links → Santa Cruz County Alerts.

Scan the county-provided QR code for quick access.

Select the communities and types of alerts relevant to your family.

Mobile phone users must register to receive alerts. Existing, unblocked landlines are automatically included. Signing up is free, although standard text or voicemail charges may apply. The county also confirms that it will not share addresses and phone numbers.

We encourage all families to register for this important safety resource to stay informed and help protect their households during emergencies.

🏡 HOW CAN FAMILIES HELP AT HOME?

✅ Talk about ROAR: Ask your child what being respectful and responsible looks like at school.

✅ Practice situations: What should you do if someone is unkind, you disagree with a friend, or you notice something unsafe?

✅ Discuss choices and consequences: Remind your child that their actions affect others and that making mistakes is an opportunity to learn and grow.

✅ Practice problem-solving: Encourage your child to use kind words, walk away from conflict, and ask a trusted adult for help.

✅ Celebrate positive choices: Recognize when your child demonstrates kindness, responsibility, honesty, and self-control.
