At Pierson High School, we believe that every student has the ability to succeed — and that success requires more than just classroom instruction. Our academic support services are designed to meet students where they are, remove barriers to learning, and provide the tools, resources, and relationships needed to help every student stay on track and reach their goals.

Tutoring Program

Pierson High School offers free, structured tutoring to all students throughout the school year. No appointment is needed — students are encouraged to drop in whenever they need extra support.

Morning Tutoring
Monday – Friday | 7:30 AM – 8:30 AM

Afternoon Tutoring
Monday, Tuesday & Thursday | 2:50 PM – 3:30 PM

Tutoring sessions are available for all subject areas. Students are encouraged to bring their assignments, questions, and materials to make the most of each session. Teachers and support staff are present to provide individualized academic assistance.

Credit Recovery

Pierson High School is a credit recovery school, meaning we are committed to ensuring that no student falls permanently behind due to a failed course. If a student does not pass a course, they are automatically re-enrolled in that course the following semester so they can earn the credit and continue progressing toward graduation.

We work closely with students and families to identify the challenges that led to the course failure and develop a plan to support success the second time around. Our counselor is available to help students map out an updated graduation plan and stay on track.

School Counseling Services

Our school counselor is here to support every student — academically, personally, and in planning for the future. Counseling services include:

• Academic planning and four-year course mapping

• Credit checks and graduation progress reviews

• Education and Career Action Plan (ECAP) development

• College and career guidance

• Personal support and referrals to community resources

• 504 Plan coordination and support for students with accommodations

Special Education Services

Our Special Education Department provides a range of services to support students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), ensuring they have access to a quality education in the least restrictive environment. Services include co-teaching, resource support, accommodations, and our Transition from School to Work (TSW) program for students preparing for life after high school.

Attendance Support & Chronic Absenteeism Intervention

We expect every student to attend school every day. Regular attendance is directly tied to academic success — and Arizona state policy requires that students who miss more than 10% of instruction time in a course will not receive credit for that course, regardless of their grade.

We take a proactive, family-centered approach to supporting attendance:

Every Absence: A parent or guardian is contacted by phone call and SMS notification the same day a student is absent.

Ongoing Absences: Our team meets one-on-one with the student and family to understand the barriers to attendance and identify practical solutions to help the student return to school consistently.

Fourth Absence: A school staff member conducts a home visit to connect with the family, express our concern, and work together on a plan to improve attendance.

We understand that life presents real challenges. Our goal is never to penalize families — it is to partner with them so that students do not lose credit and remain on the path to graduation.

College & Career Readiness Support

We prepare every Pierson student to take confident steps toward their future — whether that means college, career, or both. Our college readiness support includes:

FAFSA Night
An annual evening event where students and families receive step-by-step guidance on completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Staff and community volunteers are on hand to assist.

After-School College Guidance Classes
Structured sessions offered after school to help students with college research, application essays, understanding admission requirements, and planning their post-secondary pathway.

One-on-One Counselor Appointments
Students can meet individually with our school counselor to discuss college options, review transcripts, request recommendation letters, and build a personalized post-secondary plan.

University & College Presentations
Throughout the year, representatives from universities and colleges visit Pierson to share information about their programs, admissions process, and scholarship opportunities. Students are encouraged to attend and ask questions.
