The Nogales Unified School District governing board approved the appointment of Tim Colgate as the Nogales High School incoming principal at its meeting May 13, 2019.

Colgate has served NUSD for 18 years as an educator, athletic director, and principal. He started as a teacher at Robert M. Bracker Elementary School, moved to Nogales High School where he became part of the administrative team as the school’s athletic trainer, and then returned to Bracker as its principal. He had 10 years of teaching experience before joining NUSD, Supt. Fernando Parra said.

After obtaining a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Chadron State College in Nebraska with a major in physical education, Colgate obtained a Masters of Education from Grand Canyon University.

“Tim Colgate is committed to our district and has always enjoyed the challenges of education, working with teachers, parents, and students to make education happen for each student,” Parra said, adding, “In the last four years he has served as principal at Bracker Elementary School and has embraced his role as an instructional leader. He has implemented new ideas, instilled motivation and accountability with staff, and has promoted excellence in education, providing opportunities for every child to succeed.”

Colgate addressed the governing board and those at the meeting, stating that he “was up for the challenge.” He acknowledged that the move back to NHS was a commitment of many more hours but noted that he had the support of his family.

Colgate’s wife Lisa, and daughters Mea and Myleigh, who are current students in NUSD, were at the meeting in support.  Sons Nick and Coy are NHS graduates.

“I am ready,” Colgate said. “We are ready to tackle this together.”

Colgate begins as NHS principal on July 1, 2019. He is replacing current principal Cesar Miranda who is assuming a principal’s position in Tucson Unified School District.
