Nogales High School business education teacher Marcia Mendoza was honored by Supt. Fernando Parra at the Feb. 11, 2019 governing board meeting with the Superintendent Outstanding Award for her achievements as a teacher and the advisor for the highly successful Future Business Leaders of America (FLBA) club.

Parra read a long list of Mendoza’s accomplishments over the 12 years she has been employed at NHS. These include having her students score high enough in the International Baccalaureate business class to earn college credit. Also, those taking the Career and Technical Education (CTE) business class, which requires an end-of-course competency exam, have a passing rate of 90%, also well above state averages.

As the advisor of FBLA, Mendoza has grown the student organization to 260 members strong. Parra shared that NHS students often take the highest awards at competitions, and in 2018 Mendoza was recognized by the state-level FBLA for her excellence and having the highest enrollment in the state.

“Ms. Mendoza has a strong relationship with her students,” Parra said, pointing out that one of her students who is attending Stanford nominated her for recognition and Stanford officials presented her with a certificate for being an outstanding teacher.
