Welcome to Nogales Unified School District!

Dear NUSD Parents/Students,

 VACCINE INFORMATION:

Mariposa Community Health Center has received their first shipment of Pfizer vaccine and plan to vaccinate 16 and 17 year olds on Saturday, April 24th and Monday, April 26th.  These vaccinations will occur at the City of Nogales Recreation Center, 1500 North Hohokam Drive, Nogales, AZ.  There are two ways you can register/schedule your child for a Pfizer vaccine.  If you have access to a computer, please register your child here: Pfizer Vaccine Pre-registration .  Once your child is registered, you will receive a call from the County to schedule an appointment.  Or to schedule an appointment directly, please call 520-375-7626 Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm and our call center will be able to schedule your child’s appointment.

Some key items to be aware of when you come to the Recreation Center for your child’s appointment:

●A legal guardian of the child being vaccinated MUST be present with the child at the time of vaccination,
●The attached consent form must be signed by the child’s legal guardian prior to vaccination.  If you do not have access to a printer, you can complete the consent form at the time of your child’s appointment,
●Space inside the recreation center and parking are limited so please limit your vehicles to one per family and one legal guardian per child at the appointment,
●Your child needs to bring a picture identification that shows his/her date of birth, and
●Parents/legal guardians, please bring your proof of insurance card that covers the child being vaccinated with you to the appointment.

With the limited amount of Pfizer vaccines that have been received by Mariposa, we are limiting these initial appointments to 16 and 17 year old individuals as Pfizer is the only vaccine available to this age group.  The vaccine is not currently authorized for individuals younger than 16.

If you have any questions, please contact our COVID-19 hotline at 520-375-7626.

Thanks,
Jennifer St. John,
Santa Cruz County Manager

Gracias,
Jennifer St. John,
Santa Cruz County Manager

Arizona Parental Rights Handbook Open Book

In the 2020 Arizona Legislative Session, the Legislature established ARS § 15- 249.16 which requires the ADE to establish and post a statutory handbook of parental rights, which has been done. Additionally, each school district and charter school must prominently post a link to the statutory handbook of parental rights on a publicly accessible portion of their website.
The statutory handbook can be accessed at the following link:

NUSD #1 is located about an hour south of Tucson in the beautiful mountains of Southern Arizona. The City of Nogales is a fantastic place to live and work. It is a progressive city that has successfully maintained its small town charm, rich traditions, and vibrant culture. The city is the county seat for Santa Cruz County and shares the international border with Nogales-Sonora, its sister city in Mexico.

Our school district serves approximately 6,200 students in 10 schools which include a preschool program, six elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools. Located in the southern part of Santa Cruz County, our students and families bring to our school community a rich cultural background that reflects life on both sides of the border.

Most importantly, Nogales is the type of city where “a kid can be a kid.” Far removed from the hustle and bustle of big city life, Nogales is a place where parents can feel safe with nurturing schools and caring neighbors. Come join us here at Nogales Unified School District #1. We can’t wait to meet you!
