Francisco Vasquez de Coronado’s fourth grade teacher Renee Viviana Munguia was the latest Nogales Unified School District educator to be recognized at a governing board meeting for outstanding service to students, colleagues, and parents.

Munguia received the superintendent’s outstanding teacher award right at Coronado as that was the location of the latest meeting. NUSD occasionally holds the governing board meetings on a school campus in order to interact with that school’s teachers and parents.

Supt. Fernando Parra cited Muguia’s strengths as an educator, noting her room is always clean, well-organized and safe and that her students want to come to her classroom. However, even more than the welcoming climate of the classroom itself, is the fact that 96 percent of her students passed the AzMerit state assessment, far outstripping other school, county, and state averages.

Principal Sandra Jimenez said Munguia “not only addresses the academic needs of her students, but she also addresses their social and emotional needs.”

Munguia was brought to the podium and thanked the board and district for honoring her. “It is easy to do what you do when you love what you do every day,” she said.
