Welcome to the Nogales Unified School District #1 website!

NUSD #1 is located about an hour south of Tucson in the beautiful mountains of Southern Arizona. The City of Nogales is a fantastic place to live and work. It is a progressive city that has successfully maintained its small town charm, rich traditions, and vibrant culture. The city is the county seat for Santa Cruz County and shares the international border with Nogales-Sonora, its sister city in Mexico.

Our school district serves approximately 6,200 students in 10 schools which include a preschool program, six elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools. Located in the southern part of Santa Cruz County, our students and families bring to our school community a rich cultural background that reflects life on both sides of the border.

Most importantly, Nogales is the type of city where “a kid can be a kid.” Far removed from the hustle and bustle of big city life, Nogales is a place where parents can feel safe with nurturing schools and caring neighbors. Come join us here at Nogales Unified School District #1. We can’t wait to meet you!

A Message from the Superintendent

To the NUSD Team,

We are coming closer to the end of the first semester, and I would like to thank all of you as you move forward and plan for the second part of the school year, providing the best educational opportunities for all of our students. Be mindful of the powerful impact you make every day as you teach and learn with all of our students. What we say, what we do, and how we relate and interact every day with our students is forever part of them, their experiences, and their character.

This is also a time for giving thanks for everything we have, most importantly our health, our safety, our profession, and our families. Enjoy your holiday break as you take time to be with family, friends, and all the people you care for. Appreciate life and everything we have. Do not take things for granted or let the little things of everyday life consume you. Be understanding that life happens and embrace it for what it is. We are very fortunate! We also have the best students at NUSD. Nogales is a good, safe and special place to teach and learn. Make the very best of what you do every day.

For my complete message, please visit the Superintendent's Message page.

Sincerely,

Fernando Parra
