iPads/Equipment for Nogales High School Science Classes
The Science Foundation of Arizona selected Nogales High school to receive a grant in the amount of $49,644 to fund the purchase of the latest iPads, along with software and equipment to conduct hands-on experiments. The students will generate data using probes that record various compositions of matter that sent to the iPads, and then will analyze the information. The skills the students will learn apply to real-world use of scientific information and will give them the opportunity to actually participate, not just read about, collecting and disseminating data.
Funding from The Kemper and Ethel Marley Foundation and Science Foundation Arizona provided the science lab in memory of Joyce Marley Corrigan. Please visit the Science Foundation Arizona’s website to learn more about this wonderful organization and its efforts to improve student achievement, especially in the areas of science and math.
Free and Reduced School Lunch
In the 2015-2016 school year, all Nogales Unified School District students will be able to receive free lunch. This is in addition to the free breakfast that we've made available to our students for several years, regardless of economic situations.
Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
President Dr. Marcelino Varona Jr, attended the 21st Century
STEM Conference in Phoenix where he was the lucky winner among hundreds of
participants of a GoPro Camera. In
an effort to promote STEM awareness, he has decided to give it back
to NUSD so teachers could have the opportunity to win it through an essay
contest. In addition, Superintendent Parra has contributed $300 to be used for classroom supplies.
